After months of planning, it has finally started: the construction of the Waldbrunn an der Veluwe show layout! The DTS showroom in Ermelo has been adapted, creating space for the first part of the model railway.
While we at DTS often choose CNC-milled or laser-cut modules for customer projects, I’m choosing to use the old-fashioned method of a lath frame and ribs for this one. Purely from a financial point of view, because my labor time isn’t relevant to the costs right now.
For the slats, I used a base thickness of 18 mm and a height of 98 mm, with the fascia boards having a height of 110 mm. The frame is supported by spruce beams that are a bit on the thick side. Coincidentally, there was a sale at the hardware store where these 70×44 mm beams were half the price of the 44×44 mm ones. Well, then I’m a true Dutchman, of course 🙂 For the ribs I’m using 12 mm birch plywood, and for the horizontal parts 8-9 mm plywood.
All in all, it took some puzzling and improvising. But this part was finished in about 6 hours. After that, I started drawing out the ribs and the flat sections. This is also coming along nicely!
