This time, I’ve hidden the wires I soldered in Part 1. As mentioned, I always solder the wires neatly to the sides. Today, I routed them downwards following a few simple steps:
- Drill a 3-4 mm hole between the sleepers against the rail at the spot where you made the solder joint
- Then pull the entire wire down through that hole until it has completely disappeared and you only see the bare wire vanishing downwards
- Give the wire a quick tug. If it comes loose, you can solder it back on. Better now than when the track is finished 🙂
Quite boring, but that’s all there is to it. I did make another timelapse and took some good close-up photos of the solder joints.
Now that this is finished, I can clean the rails with IPA to remove all residue from the flux. This isn’t strictly necessary; you can just paint over it. But it’s better to degrease everything. I’ll only do that once I’m ready to paint the rails.
